Tradition of Having Boy in South of Fujian, China

It’s so grateful when I know I am pregnant. It’s a wonderful thing to be a mom I know it and thank you very much for the God to give me right and hope! After wedding, the first task is to have baby for couples in China, especially in South of Fujian. Your mother in law would ask you to have baby as soon as possible. And of course, they all hope you to have a boy!

Under great pressure, you might feel so sick to be at home and hear what she would tell you every meal everyday! She expects you to get pregnant very soon! And she would take you to temples here and there to ask Buddha to protect and let you have a boy very soon! This kind of pressure is hard to take and hard to imagine by people from other culture area. So tired after wedding indeed! 

And after you get pregnant, she would hope you could have a boy and also would go to temples there and here. It’s tired! And if you are lucky to have a son, she will be so very happy and sets off firecrackers first! She will keep her happiness and won’t chatter you all the time! But, if you have a girl, you will know what is dark! Your mother in law will chatter you of course or maybe she won’t talk so much with you but just look bad to you. Terrible life begins of you begins! How bad mother in law would be which depends on different people’s character and thoughts. But, not happy surely! 

But I am still happy with this new life, no matter it’s a boy or girl! Old tradition is hard to get rid of, but we can escape or ignore it in some degree! To be strong! I don’t know what it will like in other places, but I think every culture has its own defects or tragedies! What can we do?
